Be Perfected in Him

When we follow Satan, we give him power. When we follow God, He gives us power.

Paul V. Johnson

Essential Questions: 1-How do I cast Satan out of my life? 2-How can I be born again?

Cast Satan out of my life

I need to realize that I do not have the power in myself to overcome Satan. Just like the young Joseph Smith when he faced Satan in the sacred grove. It was only through our prayers to God and his mercy upon us, that he will fill out with His love and rebuke the Satan from our lives.

…I kneeled down and began to offer up the desires of my heart to God. I had scarcely done so, when immediately I was seized upon by some power which entirely overcame me, and had such an astonishing influence over me as to bind my tongue so that I could not speak. Thick darkness gathered around me, and it seemed to me for a time as if I were doomed to sudden destruction. But, exerting all my powers to call upon God to deliver me out of the power of this enemy which had seized upon me, and at the very moment when I was ready to sink into despair and abandon myself to destruction – not to an imaginary ruin, but to the power of some actual being from the unseen world, who had such marvelous power as I had never before felt in any being – just at this moment of great alarm, I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun, which descended gradually until it fell upon me.

Joseph Smith – History 1:15-16

So how do I cast Satan out of my life? “…exerting all my powers to call upon God to deliver me out of the power of this enemy…”

This is similar to Alcoholics Anonymous – The Twelve Steps 1) We admitted we were powerless over alcohol – that our lives had become unmanageable. 2) Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.

Stop Doing – yielding to Satan’s lies, temptations and sins

How do I cast Satan out of my life? By resisting his temptations, the plan is to stay on the covenant path today instead of being impulsive and letting go of Jesus hand to wander of and explorer something that appeals to the natural man with the belief I can easily get back on the covenant path.

Wherefore, it came to pass that the devil tempted Adam, and he partook of the forbidden fruit and transgressed the commandment, wherein he became subject to the will of the devil, because he yielded unto temptation.

D&C 29:40

Be Born Again

Such Great Faith by Walter Rane

25 And the Lord said unto me: Marvel not that all mankind, yea, men and women, all nations, kindreds, tongues and people, must be born again; yea, born of God, changed from their carnal and fallen state, to a state of righteousness, being redeemed of God, becoming his sons and daughters;

26 And thus they become new creatures; and unless they do this, they can in nowise inherit the kingdom of God.

27 I say unto you, unless this be the case, they must be cast off; and this I know, because I was like to be cast off.

Mosiah 27:25-27

Start Doing – follow Jesus

I follow Jesus by keeping His commandments. This includes repenting, being baptized, taking the sacrament weekly, and willing to do whatever Jesus asks of me – which is typically giving loving service to my brothers and sisters.

And I give unto you a commandment that ye shall do these [repent, baptized, sacrament, will to do what Jesus commanded me]. And if ye shall always do these things blessed are ye, for ye are built upon my rock.

3 Nephi 18:12

My goal is to become fully converted to Jesus. Daily, small decisions and acts of integrity are what is needed. So each day I will be presented, or tested, to see how I will react or respond to the stimulus. When faced with challenges and problems, will I give up, murmur or praise God knowing all these things will be for my good?

…as many as were brought to the knowledge of the truth, through the preaching of Ammon…power of God working miracles in them-yea, I say unto you, as the Lord liveth, as many of the Lamanites as believed in their preaching, and were converted unto the Lord, never did fall away.

Alma 23:6
