And They Sought to See Jesus Who He Was

James W. McConkie III

Essential Question – Do you love the Lord?

Then spend time with Him. Meditate on His words. Take His yoke upon you. Seek to understand and obey.

Do I matter to Jesus?

Remarkably, Jesus discerns that this is not an interruption but rather something that matters. He looks at the man on the bed, publicly forgives his sins, and physically heals him.

In short, I have lived a long time, and at this point, I have stopped buying green bananas! And I have also stopped spending time on things that don’t matter. But you do matter to me! And your future matters much to me!

Choices for Eternity by President Russell M. Nelson. Worldwide Devotional for Young Adults with President Nelson – May 2022

How wonderful is that? I matter to our Prophet. This gives me hope and faith in heeding his words as they shared with me because of his love and concern for me.

Sisters, it’s not about the ice cream. And it’s not about doing more. It’s about doing what matters. It’s applying the doctrine of Christ in our lives as we strive to become more like Him.

Does Jesus see my faith?

When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.

Mark 2:5

What does my faith in Jesus look like?

  • I cast Satan lies and deceptions out of my life by Hearkening unto Jesus
  • I keep all the commandments
  • I attend the Temple weekly
  • I daily study the teachings of Jesus
  • I pray constantly for His help and guidance
  • I daily recommit on being patient and compassionate with myself, wife and children.
  • I work! “I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.” (Mark 2:11)

What power is carried in these words of Jesus when he tells me to Arise! It is Jesus power to heal me. This reminds me of a talk by President Uchtdorf

Not long ago I was skiing with my 12-year old grandson. We were enjoying our time together when I hit an icy spot and ended up making a glorious crash landing on a steep slope. I tried every trick to stand up, but I couldn’t – I had fallen, and I couldn’t get up. …I began to wonder what it would take to rescue me. That was when my grandson came to my side. I told him what had happened, but he didn’t seem very interested in my explanations of why I couldn’t get up. He looked me in the eyes, reached out, took my hand, and in a firm tone said, ‘Opa, you can do it now!’ Instantly, I stood.

You Can Do It Now! by President Dieter F. Uchtdorg. October 2013 General Conference

On 17 January 2023 I was preparing myself for an appointment with Bishop Steele. In prayer, I asked to be guided to a scripture that would give me direction and that I can bring to the appointment. My desire is to know what must I do to build an eternal family and Zion? I was guided to read Nehemiah 2:12,20

12 “…God put in my heart to do…”

20 “…The God of heaven, he will prosper us; therefore we his servants will arise and build…”

Nehemiah 2:12,20

How do I bring people to Jesus?

And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four.

Mark 2:3

When we make effort like the four to bring others to Christ, we can do so with certainty that He sees our true intentions and will appropriately honor them.
